Gujarati Trevti Dal Recipe


It’s a north Indian dish with awesome flavours and yet healthy with three dals.Mung Lentils, Pigeon pea lentils and Bengal gram is the ultimate combination for this recipe.Let's go to the recipe. We have selected Gujarati Cuisine this month by our Culinary Hoppers team.

Ingredients
  • Toor dal- ¼ cup
  • Channa Dal -1/4 cup
  • Yellow moong dal -1/4 cup
  • Turmeric powder -1 tsp
  • Salt -1 tbsp
  • Kasturi methi leaves -1 tsp
  • Lemon -2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – few sprigs

For seasonings
  • Oil – 2 tbsp.
  • Mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds -1 tsp
  • Hing –pinch
  • Curry leaves –few sprigs
  • Dry red chili flakes -3 no’s broken


Method
1.Take all dals, wash them and then soak them in water for about 1 hour. Cook the dals in the pressure cooker and then keep it aside. Take a pan, heat oil in it and then fry mustard seeds, cumin seeds. Wait till it crackles and add Hing, dry red chili flakes, curry leaves.



 2.Smash the dals add it in the pan and then add 2 cups of water. Reduce the heat to low and keep it to simmer for few minutes. Smash the kasturi methi leaves with your hand and through it inside the dal.

3.Add coriander leaves and lemon juice in the dal and mix it. When the trivet dal gets cooked then serve it hot with rice.
4.(Optional) You can do the seasonings followed by red chilli oil.


Notes
You can add ginger green chilli paste while sauting.

  2. A central aspect of a Gujarati thali being dal, thoughtful choice of a dish dear. I do make dal using three lentils. Addition of kasoori methi will make it delicious and aromatic. Lovely share :)
